No, Bud will never contact your landlord. We only ask for the name of your landlord so that we can verify that they are the owner of the property you are renting. We currently do this by cross-checking the name you provide with the land registry and verifying that person is the owner of the property.
If Bud is unable to verify your landlord, we will let you know. This may happen because the landlord you’ve provided isn’t the legal owner of the property or because of a spelling error or mismatch between the name given and what is in the land registry. We do have some logic to help with the latter (e.g. if you put ‘Steve’ and the land registry has ‘Steven’ we can pick this up), but you can also try again!
If it still cannot be verified you will need to contact your landlord and ask them to confirm what details would appear on the land registry.
